Located in northern Minnesota between Lake Superior and the Canadian border, the Superior National Forest provides over 3 million acres of year-round recreation. Within the Forest, more than 2,000 lakes and rivers offer a chance to canoe, boat, fish and camp where early Native Americans and voyageurs once traveled. Hiking, biking, and skiing trails are abundant. Camping, picnicking, viewing scenery, riding snowmobiles and ATVs, and hunting are also popular. You may see eagles, loon or moose, or hear the howl of a wolf. The Superior National Forest is a premier bird watching location. Three Scenic Byways traverse the Forest, including the North Shore Scenic Drive/All American Road which runs over 150 miles along the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. The one million acre Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness offers a place for solitude and primitive recreation.
